Lantas, apa arti Blackout Tuesday?
Blackout Tuesday adalah bentuk unjuk rasa industri musik atas kepergian George Floyd, warga kulit hitam Afrika-Amerika yang meninggal dunia, karena mendapatkan kekerasan rasial oleh oknum anggota polisi Minneapolis, Amerika Serikat.
Gerakan itu menyebar sangat luas hingga melampaui label rekaman dan musisi atau artis dunia maupun Tanah Air yang ikut mengkampanyekan Blackout Tuesday di media sosial.
Mulanya, Blackout Tuesday dipromosikan oleh para aktivis untuk mengamati, meratap, dan membawa perubahan kebijakan usai kematian George Floyd. Gerakan itu menyampaikan pesan serius yang dalam beberapa unggahan disertai tag #BlackLivesMatter.

Dikutip dari USA Today pada Rabu (3/6/2020), Blackout Tuesday digagas oleh eksekutif musik Jamila Thomas dan Brianna Agyemang yang membuat situs untuk mengajak masyarakat mendukung komunitas kulit hitam.
Bahkan, sejumlah label musik besar dan musisi ikonik seperti Peter Gabriel dan Mick Jagger juga ikut mengkampanyekan inisiatif ini, seperti berbagi pesan di media sosial dengan tagar #TheShowMustBePaused
"Sangat menyedihkan melihat Amerika mencabik-cabik dirinya sendiri lagi karena masalah ras. Besok aku berdiri dengan sesama seniman dan mengamati Blackout Tuesday untuk memerangi diskriminasi rasial dan ketidakadilan sosial," tweet Mick Jagger.
Beberapa pesohor dunia seperti bintang NBA LeBron James, aktor John Boyega dan penyanyi Katy Perry, Taylor Swift juga ikut bergabung mendukung gerakan Blackout Tuesday.
Penyanyi Rihanna juga tak mau ketinggalan untuk ikut menyuarakan Blackout Tuesday dengan mengunggah foto hitam di Instagram. Selain itu, pelantun "Umbrella" mengumumkan bisnis kecantikan kepunyaannya, Fenty tidak akan melakukan bisnis apa pun dihari Selasa.
Selain itu, ada pun artis Tanah Air diantaranya, Nikita Mirzani, Rossa, Yuni Sara, Mira Lesmana, model Demila, Luna Maya, Fifi Lety Tjahaja Purnama, Jessica Iskandar dan masih banyak lagi yang ikut menyarakan Blackout Tuesday di Instagram.
