McGregor yang baru saja kembali naik ke oktagon itu sukses membuat comeback yang manis setelah menundukkan Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone dalam waktu 40 detik. Atas kemenangan itu, banyak pihak yang menerka siapa yang akan menjadi lawan “The Notorious” selanjutnya.
Meski McGregor sangat berkeinginan untuk tarung ulang dengan Khabib Nurmagomedov, namun rupanya tantangan lain muncul dari petinju Mayweather.
McGregor sebelumnya juga pernah mencoba peruntungan dengan bertanding tinju melawan Mayweather, namun laga pada Agustus 2017 silam itu harus berujung kekalahan bagi McGregor, demikian dikutip Antara, Selasa (21/1/2020).

Namun setelah McGregor berhasil memenangi laga comeback-nya, lantas juara dunia tinju itu menantangnya untuk tarung ulang. Melalui akun instagramnya, ia mengunggah sebuah poster bertuliskan "MAYWEATHER MCGREGOR 2 2020".
Sementara Dana White selaku Presiden UFC mengatakan, bahwa ajakan tanding ulang Mayweather kepada McGregor sudah sempat dibicarakan.
"Floyd sudah ada dalam rencana kami dan kami juga masuk dalam rencananya tahun ini. Kami akan lakukan sesuatu soal itu (tanding ulang)," kata Dana White dikutip MMA Fighting.
